National Diploma (ND) in Computer Science

The ND Computer Science programme is a two-year full-time course (plus a one-semester SIWES industrial attachment). It is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in theoretical computer science principles alongside practical, hands-on skills in software development, data management, networking, and digital systems. Graduates are equipped for immediate employment or to proceed to the HND programme.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for HND directly without doing ND at Federal Polytechnic Bali?
Yes. You can apply directly for the HND programme if you hold an ND in Computer Science or a closely related field from any NBTE-accredited institution with at least a Lower Credit grade, and have completed your SIWES industrial training.
Is SIWES compulsory for all students?
Yes, SIWES (Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme) is compulsory for both ND and HND students. It runs for 6 months between the first and second year and is coordinated by the department in conjunction with the ITF (Industrial Training Fund).
What JAMB subject combination is required for Computer Science?
For JAMB UTME, the recommended subject combination for Computer Science is: Mathematics, Physics, and one of Chemistry, Biology, Economics, or Further Mathematics. Always confirm the current requirements on the JAMB website.
Does the department offer postgraduate or degree programmes?
Currently, the department offers ND and HND programmes. HND holders wishing to obtain a university degree can apply for Direct Entry (DE) into any Nigerian university or take the JUPEB/IJMB bridging programme. Plans for B.Sc Tech programmes are under consideration.
Are there scholarships or bursaries available for CS students?
Yes. Students can benefit from the Federal Government bursary award for polytechnic students, state government scholarships (Taraba State), NACOS merit awards, and occasional departmental scholarships. Visit the student affairs office for details.
Can I enrol in a certificate course while studying ND or HND?
Yes, certificate courses are designed to run in evenings and weekends, making them accessible to full-time ND and HND students who wish to develop additional professional skills alongside their academic programme.
